FINALLY! Seen these guys from a distance, a blur as they flew by. Just wait'em out eventually it will happen.

Need to tidy up the BG a bit, didn't quite have the patients for it yesterday. Better yet if I'm lucky might get a do-over shot today.

Hey you said you wanted to see more:-) You can see from the older needles on the tree the tree is green, new growth is what you see here. Cool huh? Taken at Dawes Arboretum, Picea glauca, Mac Gold (white spruce). Yes we have one, finally, 2nd year graft, so isn't quite a showy as the one at Dawes. The new growth will slowly fade to green over the summer.

EBS being nice. They have been laying low with the not so nice weather. Plus they aren't quite old enough yet to really be going at it.

Not the best shot, excuse? Never have seen one of these, Common Tern, about dropped the camera:-)
Looks at my bird ID book again and this could also be a Forster's Tern, they be right close in looks.
This shot is where 3 Grebes use to be..Whoopsie

I finally found some Grebes, I could sit in the car and not spook the little darlings. They where in a small channel that goes under a bridge, I was tracking and checking exposure..This was my BIG chance all I had to do was wait them out till they came closer to my side and better light..See the grass? They were close, almost, I was ready, a truck went over the bridge..Grebes went bye, bye real quick..Nothin but air and water.

Every time I get a shot of this guy I keep trying to get more color into him. A bit of brain weirdness that lasted until until super critic Don pointed out you can't get more color into a RT when they don't have it..First year bird, no red tail and a borderline light morph.Doh:-)

Do you get to call this a pinecone or do you have to call it a conifer cone? This should be part of a conifer calendar or garden book. Just plain gorgeous, I'd say.

Beautiful! No wonder Don loves conifers :) I especially like the Van Gogh bokeh. Sort of a 'Confiers at Cordeville' look.

  • Thusie

    on May 2, 2007

Not all do. The light green is the 'flush' of new growth and the pink is a new cone.
