This was one of those..you have got to be kidding moments. The RT was on the ground about 20' from the car. As I am slowly getting out of the car Don says something about the car door (usually it is shut the door) so wonder chicken here slams the door shut! Guess what the hawk did, yea lofted. High point I was fast enough to get 12 IN A ROW in focus shots, obviously the hawk going away in most (butt shots). Still best tracking job I have done yet. When I got back in the car Don was still in a state of shock. Hawk right there, eating dinner, you get out a SLAM the door???? Pathetic.

Probably the best shot but...
Yep a sq, I like the light, actually a bit of sun, rare these days:-) Still wading though shots from Sat. and the wetlands is bursting with life now, wading though those shots.

My early and long day was to teach a Category 1 (first level wildlife rehabilitation permit)class. Which in 'most cases' is required by the Ohio Div. of Wildlife. Perks for me is photo ops if the class is given at a center that has Education animals:-) This is probably as close as I'll ever get to a Kessy.

Will be gone all day. Will try and look/comment on as many shots as I can before I leave at 6:30.

Have a super day!

Got food?

A few have asked what was wrong with the 400 and it is easier to show what I couldn't do. The first is an untouched RAW to jpg. While I would prefer to be closer
http://Thusie.smugmug.com/photos/133095055-L.jpg

I still like the option of being able to crop and still have a good shot. This needs a bit of stick clean-up.
RTH's comfort zone expands in direct relationship to the lens you have..utoh, she has the longer glass move back 50':-) Not the best shot of the day, but funny. This guy went from being the normal RTH branch potato to 'stretching'.
This is a pretty pedestrian shot, but the detail and AF is back at distance (fairly good crop here).

Canon NJ received my 400 and 30D last Tuesday and they were back here yesterday. Go Canon! The AF system on the 30D was not adjusted properly, fixed. The 400 also wasn't AFing properly but they couldn't find the exact cause so it was completely gone through and then the 30D-400 were calibrated together. Nice, very nice. So far so very good. Hopefully I'll get out today in some good light to really give it a good workout on some BIF shots. It worked just wonderful on the sqs:-)

Squirrel time. I can only branch out so much ya know:-)

Not dead stuff but almost a total furber.

The locals let me know he was close by, hawks are always backlit, a couple clicks on the + exposure comp would have done wonders..But noooo, to busy looking for him and brain didn't engage.

One more!! The snow is leaving fast. This female Card has such good color and it is also about the last shot taken with the 400 before I packed it up.

Going to be and interesting couple weeks as I try and survive w/o my 400 f5.6L, whaaa, it along with the 30D are going into Canon to get a tune up. The 30D has been a bit off and on Friday Canon Tech had me do a reset to see if it fixed things, it helped to a degree. They also suggested I send both in to get them recalibrated, a tune up for the 400 before she goes out of warranty and a good going over of the 30D. The high point is after doing the reset it was suggested I do the same on the 20D and it put the old girl right back in perfect form. Yippee! I always have doubts and always look to myself before I think equipment issues so I've been on the fence about sending them in, but equipment issues do happen. However the clincher was yesterday when Mr RTH came through and w/o a thought I turned the 20D with the 200 on him and took 7 perfect (color is washed since I wasn't really set EC wise) tack sharp BIF shots. The long and the short of it, that is all that was needed to cement that the AF system on the 30D is off and has been getting worse or much more inconsistent. Will be interesting to see how this all shakes out.

Not a fan of bird feeder shots as a rule but was pretty pleased with getting a gfinch and house finches at the same time.
