Experimenting on just how close I could get, 4' was the limit. Slight advantage that this is a late summer juvie.<br />
Out at our release site you rarely see the squirrels, hear them yes. Quite difference when they have a choice.

Just a flat out wonderful day today and I made it a point to get outside with the 20D and 400, even tried my hand using it for landscape, pretty cool. However since you folks actually seem to enjoy the squirrel shots,this is one I rather like. No real PP except USM an a bit of exposure adjustment in raw. Bit soft I think.

<br />
I'm cheating. Wonderful day, perfect nice soft sun and I didn't even make it outside (with the camera that is). So I'm pretending, sorry <br />
<br />
<br />
This the notorious Ms Nibs, yes another wild with a name, had to. She really does have that much tail compared to her body size.

Between mating chases and spring molt this male is not at his best, moth eaten old coat look. Got some interesting shots of this guy way up in the maple feasting on new buds that were way out on the spindly limb ends. Couldn't have done that without the 400, did end up with just a hint of PF at the limb edges..Blah! Suppost to have SUN tomorrow.

<br />
Yes, yes a squirrel, but that isn't the reason I put this up. The backgound is such that it makes where the squirrel is at look like a cliff. Boom land stops here. I think its spiffy and yes I'm easily entertained.

<br />
This is the actual first shot taken with the new 400. This is the first shot I take with any new lens just never show anyone. Besides flowers and hummers and nothing is moving, doesn't get much better than that.

<br />
I think I'm in a rut, another dove shot.
  • March 16th<br />
Boorring, but served a purpose. Spent part of the day just practicing hand holding, this at 200mm-1/80. Not great but not bad. Was at 90mm-1/20 with a SS coffee maker. All the shots I took inside I wanted the shutter speed at least 50% less than the focal length. Good practice for me.

<br />
Nesting pair most likely. Doves are by far the sloppiest nest builders going. Usually one pair will try and build a nest on one of the second floor windowsills. Bring two sticks, wind blows sticks off, repeat.
  • I'm cheating on this since this was to go up yesterday and I didn't do much today.<br />
<br />
This is a different perspective of the Alpine garden we have.

Have not been able to get a good shot of this door, so this is attempt 50&#43;. Door had a dark blue cast so did a bit of color correction on the door using curves.
  • March 10th<br />
<br />
Not much today. Just got in the first rehab bird of the season, adult male Cardinal they are the snarks of bird world.
  • Pinus koraiensis 'Morris Blue'<br />

March 9th<br />
Swiped this off the conifer page, trying to get all of them up on the site before more roll in. This is another one that is just cute.
  • March 8th<br />
<br />
Hum. Well I sort of had an idea what I was going for and it sort of worked. DOF did turn out the way I expected but I would have liked more curve. I think I might have been to wide open.
  • March 7th<br />
<br />
Playing around with DOF, don't think it turned out to bad at all.
  • March 6th<br />
Have no logical reason for this shot except it was there.

Today I decided to play around with the AF points, not just use the center AF. Also to try and get a half good shot of a witch hazel. For some reason I have load of trouble with them.
  • March 3rd<br />
The is one of the conifers Don brought home yesterday, cute little puff ball. I like the growth habit of long and short needles.<br />
<br />
I am starting to wonder what it's like to shoot with sunlight?
  • March 2nd<br />
<br />
Not much today. Was fun watching Don take pictues of his new conifers. He just couldn't stand it any longer so he went shopping.
  • March 1st.<br />
<br />
Gray day so decided to try my first B&W conversion. Seemed to suit the day and the setting.
