Conked out so late up with this.

This was a gift from a very good friend who visited the Waterford Crystal plant while in Ireland.
The squirrel figurine is actually clear not colored, it took me a few tries to get the gold tint in the shot, then it was simple LAB and USM..Yep more experimenting, planned stuff-)
This is sort of a do-over from the 18th. Like the pose better and the head is sharp:-) Might be a bit too much dead space at the top?

Glad you all like the sq shot from yesterday. THanks!
Sun can make such a difference, even just a little sun..BJ shot from the 27th.
Decided I really needed to practice some BIF shots, ohoo am I slow, so out to the Hatchery I went. There are enough Canada Geese and gulls out there to populate the whole state and they are spooky as can be. Exposure comp can be interesting when both take off at once and in some cases leaving the EC at 0 worked best and I went for a quite few that I should have just let alone. As a good friend and photog likes to remind me; there are time when it just isn't going to work so leave off. I like a challenge, also a great way to learn, so I often will ignore his advice:-) After taking a bunch of mass lift off shots, I'm bad a groups, I went for trying to lock on one bird and stay with it. I had also set the 400 switch to 8.5m to cut down on focus time, gulls being gulls just don't like to play by the rules so had to go back to the 3.5m. Blah! Nothing fancy just a nice time trying to improve my skill in one of the many areas I need to work on:-)

I also didn't bring any extra CF cards with me so dumped a few shots just before we left since there are EAGLES out there. Don kept running this wonderful scenario by me..Eagle comes in, perfect light and angle and YOU have a full CF card..Nice guy huh?

So here is one practice shot and a link to my personal best, but not great, King Fisher shot. Hah I'll take one of these guys anyway I can get them

Guess who this isn't?:-)

Went along the river to see if anything was out and about, nada. So as we pull into the parking lot of a busy grocery store in a busy shopping center (yep open on TD), in came a RT to the small park across the street. A street that walking across isn't the best idea, but hey you do what you have to do. Catching one of these guys in good light was pretty cool, he was facing SW and the sun was behind my right shoulder, a bit of - EC, tons of shutter speed and the 400 that is so good at picking though twigs to lock focus, getting closer would have been nice. I like this one because of the setting.

The shot below is the better shot, probably, would I have liked a better angle, would have had to stand in the middle of the street, I don't think so, was dodging cars as it was.
Not a very good shot, a nice sunny day would improve it quite a bit so this is mostly for humor.
A bit more coop fun..This is a huge (70% I think check pixels) crop with some sun. Lost some IQ but not excessive.
Very nice indeed. You can see just a little ripple in the water near the bottom of the shot...(for those who couldn't tell if it was upside down or not). You even got the eye in focus IN THE WATER!

LOL...I thought you got up on the wrong side of the bed, as they say! Then I thought you were having problems with rotating shots...happened to me last night. Never dreamed this was a reflection. It's almost a shame it is so sharp....makes it difficult to realize it is what it is!!! I'll give you 5 stars for it anyway!

  • Susan (snapapple)

    on November 27, 2006

Hey there, great shot. I knew right away it was a reflection. I can see the ripples running across the tree. There is a wide one near the bottom of the image and others all the way down, or up, the tree. However, Sean could be right that some of the "real" stuff should be in the image. Maybe it's a rule or something. I don't know. But, I don't think it "has" to be that way. I like that it makes me look a bit longer to understand what I'm seeing. I like it!

    on November 27, 2006

Here is the uncropped RAW changed to jpg, you can see the waterline at the top where the 'real' rocks start.
