One of the spotters getting set up for her two hour shift watching the eagles nest. She is on one of the dikes seperating the many fish ponds. The lay of the land is flat and the nest is in a old fence row that is now maybe 75' wide now, 3rd growth trees at best. On the other side of the fence row is a sod farm. Yes odd place for an eagles nest but the food souce is more than abundant.

Nestling Wrens. Not all in focus but I just don't see that happening. Just getting feathers you can see some of the feather shafts. When the feathers are comming in it also creates a 'dust', you can see a bit of that to.

There are 5, 3 are now gaping instead of diving for cover, meaning sticking their head under a siblings butt..Charming

The wind quit blowing for about one second so grabbed this shot of one of the Japanese Maples. Very strange background.
 • At first neither will be out of the box at the same time, you can see the switch in this shot.

I will be putting a few more up on Smugmug and will link here, some shots are just too funny.

This shot is only interesting because the squirrel is eating a peanut, most around here won't touch them..GOOD SQUIRREL!
Post was not much, minor LAB curves, checked fur (did I do better Rutt?) and USM.

This shot and the previous one were redone to correct some color issues. When I changed out the shots all your wonderful comments also went bye-bye.

The funky conifer the female is under is called Whipcord. Don moved it to the table where the sqs eat so he could mow. Couldn't make up my mind between this one and this one. No birds to much going on.
My backyard, or part of it. This type of shot is for Don so he has a visual of 'his' landscape at different times of the year. We have just slightly less than 2 acres and this shot is me standing at the front of the garage, behind the garage is most of the property which he is also working on. Yes that strip of brick along the back was 'painted' a brick red, Blah, the main part of the house is natural brick. We have a conifer that should, someday, cover that butt ugly electrical box at least all the utilities are buried now..That was really butt ugly.
No real flowers yet. hey I have to take these shots you all get to see then:-) Very, very bad at this type. Oh house is on what was a working Indian mound, at least the archaeological folks are pretty sure it is.

Just goes to show kids are hard on everyone. Mom squirrel taking a break.

Not the best shot of the day, just fun and interesting, to me anyway.

Another 'just liked it' shot. This one squirrel thinks this Japanese Maple is 'his' and it annoys Don to no end. The Virdis while not the showiest of the maples is Don's favorite, this squirrel keeps it artfully pruned.

The Grinners are here. I tried really hard to get a shot of them(2) doing the open mouth hiss, grin, didn't work.I guess I should also say this is our only marsupial (pouch baby) the Opossum.

Not my usual shot because I'm so bad at this type.
Just happend to look out the back door just as the sun was coming up and the glow was fantastic, so I gave it a try.

No post except USM and lightness in Lab. Looks fake just one of those funky Ohio birds. Pretty whopping big crop to boot.

I like this shot quite a bit so thought I would share.
Liked this shot at first now not sure. It is one of the Japanese Maples starting to 'bloom'.
 • April 9th,

Just shoot me ok? I put the 70-200 back on and one does need to remember it is a ZOOM lens. Still nothing looked right, light to harsh maybe? Out of 70+ shots only 5 that were ok...So it is later in the day and one more time..Tada Great lens, great camera, stupid human.

The Squirrels in Motion gallery is up it is private for now. Not many shots, stop in when you have a minute and take a look. Feel free to join in, not sure how that is done, but someone would know? Ground Squirrels welcome, Vandana, Snappy?

Made it outside for just a bit yesterday AND just before a major storm hit...What can I say?
Lots of stuff blooming or getting ready to and way too much wind for those shots.
 • April 6th

Well they aren't squirrels.
 • April 2nd

Almost whacked the tail off. Trying to get my pea brain wrapped around EV adjustments.
 • April 1-2nd:-))

Don got a new conifer and anything new has to be inspected. All the better if squirrel can look in the window. Shot though computer room window with the 60mm.

Squirrels in Motion, Butt shot. Liked the feet.

You can all blame Sebastian for this. In his post about the Euro Red he mentioned how getting shots can be a pain since squirrels are never still long, he's right. So more thinking about that (you should all be scared by now) and like most I try to catch these nice static shots, super high energy and super athletes doing nothing. This could end up being an exercise in futility, freezing motion, blur and still combined, certainly a challenge for me, should be interesting. I will be putting up a private gallery of motion shots, will post the link here for anyone that wants to take a look or even join in the fun.
