North American Red Squirrel aka pine sq or piney
Because of our mild winter mating chases started early and some males wanted to push the issue. This guy got swatted for his efforts.
We don't name squirrels as a rule, but this one is called Girl Sq. and I have started calling her Ms. Photogenic. Her way of going is a bit unusual, reminds one of a wind up toy dog when she is just ambling around.
Sis..Feb 1997-Dec.2005 What can I say, almost 9 full years in the wild and a boatload of young. They are learning more and more about squirrels ability to reason and make choices. I often called her the 'thinking man's squirrel' she was amazing to watch.
